Debido al coronavirus y al confinamiento, la contaminación bajo drásticamente a nivel mundial. El cierre de fábricas, el comercio así como las restricciones de transferencias aéreas, disminuyo las emisiones de CO2 al mes en 25%, debido a la reducción del consumo de combustibles fósiles como es el petróleo.
En países de América, Europa, Asia y África, esta pandemia ha permitido que la naturaleza empiece a respirar de a poco, se ha podido observar la aparición de fauna silvestre, aves, delfines, esto gracias a la ausencia del ser humano.
La cuarentena obligada por el coronavirus a nivel mundial, a las industrias, a muchas de las actividades humanas, al transporte aéreo y terrestre, así como el aislamiento de millones de personas ha traído un efecto positivo casi inmediato sobre el medio ambiente y los ciudadanos han podido respirar aire más limpio y fresco y ver cielos azules y sin contaminación.
La caída de la contaminación ambiental y de las emisiones de carbono fue uno de los primeros resultados positivos para el planeta. El primer país en reducir sus niveles de contaminación ambiental fue China, precisamente el mayor contaminante del mundo y en donde apareció el virus, hoy convertido en pandemia.
